Contemporary | Kappazuri/Stencil Print
Hiromitsu Takahashi’s 1986 stencil print “暫 C” (Shibaraku C) is part of his alphabetical Shibaraku series, capturing the iconic hero of Shibaraku - first performed by Ichikawa Danjūrō I in 1697 - mid-command in vibrant kappazuri pigments. Bold colourful pigments on fibrous washi paper bring the warrior’s dramatic pose and fierce kumadori makeup to life - a wonderful homage to one of kabuki’s most celebrated moments. 🎭⚔️.
