Hideshi Yoshida - かゆい... (Itchy...)

Sale price£80.00

Contemporary Wood-Engraving

A fabulous print by Hideshi Yoshida: かゆい... (Itchy...). A wonderfully deadpan polar bear pauses mid-scratch, its huge white form reduced to simple shapes and engraved lines. The tiny black claws, nose and eyes give the image just enough expression, while the almost monochrome palette makes the bear seem to emerge quietly from the paper. It is a brilliantly understated example of Yoshida’s humour. 🐻❄️

He transports viewers into surreal realms - ranging from charming animal scenes to visionary landscapes inspired by Lovecraft, Carroll and Stevenson - while centering his own Sci-Fi universe, Agnahuecom-Land, and the tech-driven mega-corporation FROSKEY Inc., powered by the mythical element Rabbitanium. Yoshida’s richly detailed narratives and fantastical precision have earned him international acclaim, with works held at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology (Poland) and the St. Nikolai Municipal Museum (Belgium).
