Misa Tsuchiya - danger
Contemporary Woodblock Print
Watch out for the bears! 🐻⚠️🐻 *One of a small series of works: “Human-Bear Coexistence” - exhibited at Okubo Museum, Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, 2024. https://okubomuseum.com/. Misa Tsuchiya comments in this wonderfully fun piece, danger:
【Human-Bear Coexistence】の一部。有名な「非常口」の看板に見えるが、同じように背中を向けて逃げ出すことは、クマに確実に襲われるので、命は無い🏃♀️💨。(Part of [Human-Bear Coexistence]. It looks like the famous "emergency exit" sign, but if you turn your back and run away, you will definitely be attacked by a bear, so you won't be able to survive🏃♀️💨).
この「danger」は危険を知らせる看板である⚠️。(This "danger" is a signboard that warns of danger ⚠️).
※クマに遭遇したときに、背中を向けて走り出すとクマに襲われるので絶対に背中を向けて逃げてはいけない。(*When you encounter a bear, never turn your back and run because the bear will attack you).

About the Artist
土屋未沙 Misa Tsuchiya (b. 1993, Kanagawa) reimagines centuries-old Japanese mokuhanga with a thoroughly contemporary flair. Her animal-themed woodblock prints burst off the page in bold colour and unexpected form - elongated limbs, poised tension and playful energy bring each creature to life. Tsuchiya’s work is held in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Kanuma Municipal Art Museum (Japan), Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art (Israel) and Tama Art University (Tokyo).
