Modern | Sōsaku Hanga Woodblock Print
Katsuyuki Nishijima’s woodblock print “吹屋の路地” (Fukiya Street) opens onto a rain-washed lane in Fukiya Furusato Village, where deep green forested hills looms above ochre-plastered merchant houses. Sheets of rain streak past latticed shutters and sekishugawara tile roofs, while the warm “bengara” pigment of clay walls glows against the storm. A vivid scene of a historic copper-mining town reborn in red ochre. 🌧️🏘️
