Hideshi Yoshida - ジキルとハイド (Jekyll and Hyde)
Contemporary Wood-Engraving
A magnificent exploration of duality, this piece portrays an otter split between its darker and brighter selves - an homage to Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.” The shadowy contours and luminous highlights merge in a single frame, revealing new nuances with every glance. Carved from box and lemonwood blocks (~6 × 6 cm) and printed on sumptuous gampi & kōzo papers, its astonishing detail truly rewards close inspection. 🦦🎨🦦
